Galway is known as ‘The City of the Tribes’, rich in its arts and culture, with an eclectic feel.
County Galway is the home to rugged mountains in Connemara such as Maumturks (or Maamturks), mirror like lakes including Lough Corrib, limestone walls, peat bogs with the purple heather flower, Connemara National Park and Kylemore Abbey.
In the city, you can stroll on the cobblestone streets of Shop Street and purchase the famous Claddagh ring, taste fish & chips in McDonagh’s or listen to a talented busker playing a fiddle or banjo on the street. Many of our clients love to taste Murphy’s Homemade Ice-cream and Hazel Mountain artisan chocolate as they stroll around. The Latin Quarter, Spanish Arch and The Claddagh are all very authentic locations in the City Centre. This is where most of the visitors congregate to enjoy the atmosphere. Street markets are held every Saturday near St. Nicholas church and attract many people.
Galway is known all over the World for The Galway Races, a horse racing festival held in July/August and The Galway International Arts Festival, in July, which hosts actors, writers, dancers, poets, comedians and musicians from all over the world. Thousands of people travel to these events every year. It is the home of the green marble, quarried in Connemara, and also to the native Connemara pony who can be seen grazing by the Wild Atlantic Ocean, food & whiskey tours in the city and Galway Bay oysters.
Salthill promenade is a great location for strolling and breathing in the Wild Atlantic Sea air as you sip a locally brewed coffee or tea.
Galway Crystal and Galway Cathedral are prominent buildings showcasing decades of history and skilled craftmanship. Shopping in the crystal shop for a vase or whiskey glasses may be on your bucket list. Viewing the Renaissance Revival Architecture in the 20th century cathedral is highly recommended.
