
Connemara is a treasure of various activities from sheep dog demonstrations, basket weaving, turf cutting, cycling Sky Road or hiking Diamond Hill.
Connemara is a majestic location in West Galway and South Mayo. You will view granite stone walls granite stone walls, peat bogs with purple heather, towering, rugged mountains covered in quartz and oyster seabeds set in the Atlantic Ocean.
It is known as a Gaeltacht, where the locals speak fluent Irish and the road signs are marked in the native language. Traditional Irish music can be heard from the quaint little pubs dotted around the towns and villages.
Connemara green marble is excavated in the isolated quarries around this region and is modelled on people’s jewellery around the world. The pure-bred Connemara pony is native to this area and is exported all over the world. Black faced sheep can be seen grazing high on the mountains pasture.

The first transatlantic flight to Ireland with John Alcock and Arthur Browne landed at Derrigimlagh bog in Clifden on June 15th, 1919.
Connemara has all the natural beauty you could dream about from peat water lakes, rolling hills, a large fjord, small islands, sheltered coves, sandy beaches, a large national park and a scenic Atlantic coastline.
It is home to Kylemore Abbey, a 19th century museum steeped in history from the 1800s and now owned by the Benedictine nuns. There are many colourful towns in Connemara such as Spiddal, Oughterard and Clifden which are bountiful in culture, history and artisan food.
Connemara is home to many great musicians, artists, writers and poets.

CONNEMARA DAY TOUR ITINERARY:

Pick up at your B&B or hotel in Clare at 8:00am and Galway City 9:00am.

Travel out West to Joe Joyce Sheep Dog Demonstration in Clonbur, Connemara, beginning at 11:00am.

Depart Joe’s farm after taking photos with his friendly border collie dogs and a great interaction with Joe who is very funny.

Stop at a café in Leenane village for tea/coffee and scones.

Continue with your personal driver to Killary Harbour for a photo of the longest fjord in Ireland and surrounding hills.

After Killary drive to the 19th century, Kylemore Abbey owned by the Benedictine order of nuns. Stroll on a self-guided or guided tour through the Abbey. A bus shuttle is available to the Victorian walled gardens during the peak months.

Also walk to the 19th century Gothic church on the Kylemore Abbey grounds.

Depart Kylemore after a memorable visit and travel to Clifden town, well known for its great atmosphere, excellent food and colourful buildings.

Have lunch at a restaurant of your choice, your driver will recommend some of the most popular for our clients.

Leave Clifden at 4pm and return to your B&B or hotel in Galway city at 5.30pm and Clare 6.45pm.
