Exploring the unspoilt landscapes of the Beara Peninsula, each route offers a slightly different journey through dramatic coastal scenery, colourful villages, and hidden gems far from the crowds.

The Beara Peninsula stretches from Kenmare in County Kerry into West Cork. 

 

The word Beara is named after a Spanish princess, wife of Owen Mór. The Beara Peninsula is 48 km in distance from Glengarriff to Dursey Island.

The Beara Peninsula offers many gems from Copper Mines, Dursey Cable Car, Uragh Stone Circle, Bonane Heritage Park, Molly Gallivan’s, Healy Pass, Glanmore Corrie Lake, Kilmackkillogue Viewpoint, Gleninchaquin Park, Bamboo Park and boat trips from Glengarriff to Garnish Island.
 

You will see rolling hills, tunnels, glacial lakes, small islands, rugged seashores, multi-coloured houses, wild plants, fishing trawlers, oyster beds, black-faced sheep, unspoilt valleys, little waterfalls, oak forests and rural pubs.

ROUTE 1 - BEARA DAY TOUR ITINERARY: Kenmare & West Cork, via Bantry

  • Pick up at your hotel or B&B in Killarney at 9am and Kenmare at 9.30am by your personal driver guide.

  • Travel out to Molly Gallivan’s cottage, heritage experience, family run café for tea/coffee and homemade scones.

  • Take some panoramic photos of the Bonane hills and valleys.

  • Your driver guide will continue through the Caha Pass to Bantry Bay House built in 1710, for a self-guided tour.

  • Enjoy the views over Bantry Bay and some great photo opportunities.

  • Taste some delicious food in a local pub or restaurant in Bantry or Glengarriff town, recommended by your driver guide.

  • After lunch, drive on the Healy Pass with stunning views of the Caha mountains, Glanmore lake, Beara Peninsula and Kenmare Bay.

  • Arrive in Kenmare town for some shopping and free time at 4pm. Shop in the local boutiques, browse through the art galleries or relax with an artisan coffee in a local cafe.

  • Return to your hotel or B&B at 5.30pm in Kenmare, and Killarney 6pm after a great day tour.

ROUTE 2 - BEARA DAY TOUR ITINERARY: Kenmare & West Cork, via Allihies

  • Pick up at your hotel or B&B in Killarney at 9am and Kenmare 9.30am by your personal driver guide.

  • Travel with your personal driver along the coast road from Kenmare to Allihies, enjoy tea/coffee and homemade scones.

  • Photo stop at Killmackillogue close to the pier.

  • Continue to Castletownbere town, the home of the largest fishing trawlers in West Cork. Stroll along by the marina and breathe in the Wild Atlantic Sea air.

  • Your driver guide will drive to Glengarriff town, taste some delicious dishes in any of the recommended restaurants.

  • Also visit Quills knitwear shop to browse through their Aran sweaters and cardigans.

  • Depart Glengarriff town at 2.30pm and drive over the Healy Pass overlooking the Caha mountains, Glanmore lake, Kenmare Bay and the Beara Peninsula.

  • Enjoy some fantastic, photo opportunities at the top of the Healy Pass.

  • Arrive in Kenmare at 4pm, free time for shopping in the local boutiques, stroll around the art galleries or enjoy a cup of artisan coffee in a café.

  • Return to your B&B or hotel in Kenmare at 5pm, Killarney 6pm after a great day tour.
